This video excerpt from the IPSC Canadian Qualifiers captures my speech on the importance of representation. The topic: “The light of a candle, is transferred to another candle, Spring twilight” – Lighting One Candle, a haiku by Yosa Buson. Drawing from a personal story of inspiration, I reflect on how seeing others succeed can transform what we believe is possible for ourselves—and how representation can empower people to pursue ambitions once thought beyond their reach.

This excerpt captures my speech at the ESU International Public Speaking Competition semifinals at Dartmouth House in London. As the only Canadian contestant, I had the privilege of representing my country alongside speakers from around the world, sharing my perspective while learning how storytelling can connect people across cultures, experiences, and backgrounds.
Topic: “The power to question is the basis of all human progress.” — Indira Gandhi

This video features my impromptu speech from the semifinals of the 2026 ESU International Public Speaking Competition. Given “Lost in Translation,” I had just 15 minutes to prepare. I shared my adventures learning French—from misunderstandings to moments of connection—and reflected on how language can both divide and unite us. I concluded with the idea at the heart of my speech: words may be lost in translation, but love never is.
